About the Practitioner

Hello, and thanks for choosing to find out more about me. I am an experienced Therapist specialising in two key areas: Eating Disorders, Food and Body Image. and Fertility/IVF. I have a private practice in Cork, Ireland and I also work remotely online with clients from as far afield as Canada and Abu Dhabi. EATING DISORDER SUPPORT With Eating Disorders, I believe it is important to hold a balance between counselling and coaching. So much of what we 'know' or are told about food, health, diet and exercise is incorrect and often actively detrimental. I am passionate about helping my clients move out of eating distress and back to finding joy in their lives, enjoyment of food and letting go of the inner critical voice. Eating Disorder clients have a common personality trait - they tend to be all or nothing, black/white thinkers. They also tend to be people pleasers, and find it hard to say no. Finally, they tend to be very hard on themselves! It is very hard for my clients to even reach out for support, and because of this, I also developed several online programs to help adults with eating distress to 'start from where they are'. More information can be found on www.mindful-emotional-eating.com. I like to get things done so sessions with me can be quite active and sometimes challenging as we move out of the comfort zone and into new, self-care territory. I do not think it takes years of therapy to recover, recovery is far more about the personal readiness of the client to change - and challenge themselves to make changes every week that move them closer to the life they desire, and deserve. FERTILITY AND IVF I work with individual women and couples experiencing difficulty in conceiving and/or trying to manage the stress of navigating their way through fertility treatment. I am also a fully trained Donor Implications Counsellor for Egg and Sperm donation - this counselling is mandatory in Ireland as part of any Donor IVF treatment. Experiencing difficulty in starting or growing your family is a lonely place to be as others around you seem to fall pregnant very naturally and easily (not the truth, but that can be the perception). Having experienced secondary infertility and pregnancy loss myself, I understand how difficult this experience can be. Finding peace whilst on that rollecoaster seems impossible! I believe in empowering people to find their own way to cope and manage the situation better, and I work from a holistic perspective in this regard - the medical issue preventing pregnancy is usually only part of the problem. If you think you would like to work with me, then please use my online scheduler to book a no-obligation complimentary session online, to see if we are a good fit, and we can take it from there. Thanks for taking the time, and I look forward to meeting you. Warmly Emma Murphy MIACP
